Message from the Foundation

Dear Friends of South Georgia College:

It is indeed a great honor to serve as the 2009-2010 President of the South Georgia College Foundation. As a long-time businessman in Douglas and Coffee County, I am very familiar with the benefits and opportunities provided by a college education. My understanding of business, economics and the role of economic development in the life of a community will enable me to lead the SGC Foundation through the upcoming year.

South Georgia College is a growing institution, and it is a time of great excitement and anticipation on campus. Douglas and Coffee County have experienced phenomenal growth over the years, and SGC has grown along with the community. Enrollment continues to climb, exciting new building projects are scheduled, and the College recently updated its five-year Master Plan to include important re-structuring of existing building use, modifications in traffic flow and better opportunities for student learning and growth.

This College has been an important part of both the Coffee County community and the University System for over a century. In order to continue to be a relevant and viable member of this community, it will be increasingly important to focus on donations to SGC. As economic times toughen and citizens across the state are tightening their financial belts, we must be persistent in our efforts to demonstrate that a donation to South Georgia College is an investment in the future growth and prosperity of our region. When education prospers, everyone else does as well.

While vitally important, state funds are dwindling; money from Atlanta doesn’t cover all of the College’s goals, objectives and projects. We all need to take a serious look at how we can support South Georgia College. There is no greater investment that we can make for the overall growth and health of our community.

To learn more about the variety of ways you can contribute or to obtain additional information on the SGC Foundation, please contact the Office of Advancement at 912.260.4274.

Sincerely,

Luke Morgan
SGC Foundation President
