The Police Officer is available on the Waycross Campus during regular business hours. SGSC contracts with a private security entity to provide security services after hours and on the weekends. |
The South Georgia State College Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency on the Douglas Campus. The Waycross Campus has an officer on duty during the evening hours. Additionally, the Waycross Police Department responds to the campus for law enforcement-related issues when needed. The Department is recognized by the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Council as a police agency, and its authority stems from Georgia law. All police officers are certified peace officers of the State of Georgia, and certification comes only after successful attendance at a recognized police academy. Additionally, officers meet annual POST training requirements to retain their arrest powers.
SGSC police officers are responsible for crime prevention and traffic control on campus. Police officers have the authority to arrest violators of criminal and traffic laws on the campus and for 500 yards adjacent to the campus.
