Facts about the Federal Work Study Program at SGC

The maximum number of hours you may work per week will depend on the amount of your award, but will usually not exceed 15. The rate of pay for all work study jobs (on and off-campus) is the current minimum wage rate. The pay schedule is every two weeks (usually on a Friday). Contact Ms. Cinnimin Durham for more information.

Federal Work Study Program

The Federal Work Study (FWS) Program encourages the part-time employment of students who need the income to help pay for the cost of their education, and encourages FWS recipients to participate in community service activities.  To qualify, a student must have financial need; that is, his or her cost of attendance (COA) must be greater than his or her Expected Family Contribution (EFC).

If you are interested in the FWS Program, and you have already completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the appropriate aid year, your next step should be to submit a SGC Federal Work Study Application to the OFA.

If you are given a FWS award, you will be asked to meet with an OFA staff member to complete an orientation.  You will also need to complete additional paperwork, including payroll documents, before you can begin your work assignment.  The following (Microsoft Word formatted) documents are provided to help you begin the orientation and pre-employment process:

FWS Checklist Use this checklist to guide you through the steps necessary to begin your Federal Work Study assignment.

FWS Policy Manual You must submit a signed copy of this document to the OFA.
