SGC Hires New Tiger Village I Manager
The South Georgian
is a new sheriff at Tiger Village, and his name is Ali Mwanundu.
Just a few weeks ago, South Georgia State College hired Ali Mwanundu to be a part
of its Residence Life staff. He will oversee Tiger Village I as resident
Mwanundu is a Kenya native and according to him, Kenya is “where the sun
always shines.” He’s a long way from home, but he has been in the U.S. for a
long time now.
He graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, with a bachelor’s degree
in architecture. He later graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with his
master’s in sports leadership. “Who knows, the future might allow me to
pursue more degrees,” says Mwanundu.
He continues: “I was really good at technical drawing in high school and I was
really interested in the field, and so I thought that I would continue the
field throughout my life. After attending Miami University, I realized that
it was not the field for me.” That is when Mwanundu made the change to
sports leadership. “I have always been very passionate about sports
throughout my life, it was a big switch to do that for my master’s,”
He was actually looking for a smaller institution, something that would
challenge him personally and professionally. The search led Mwanundu to
South Georgia State College. He calls coming to SGC “an opportunity that would
allow me to work closely with students and different departments on campus.”
With only being on campus for just a few weeks, Mwanundu is still adjusting
to being in Douglas. “So far, so good. The staff members that I have met so
far have been very welcoming and very nice. I think my transition and time
here at South Georgia will be a very memorable experience,” Mwanundu says.
