SGC’s Amy Hancock Receives PTK Horizon Award
Amy Hancock, Phi Theta Kappa advisor at South Georgia College, was recently
honored with the Horizon Award at the Georgia Spring Regional Conference at
Georgia Highlands College in Rome. The Horizon Award recognizes new advisors
who participate in regional and international programs and have attained new
levels of achievement in Phi Theta Kappa programs.
The
awards are presented based on recommendation from the advisor's Regional
Coordinator. Hancock was presented with a Horizon Award certificate at the
regional awards presentation and her name will be included in the Region
Directory.
Frank Malinowski, Interim Dean of Science and Mathematics at Darton College
and Phi Theta Kappa Regional Coordinator says, “As a new advisor Amy has
immersed herself fully into the Phi Theta Kappa culture. She is working hard
to bring both herself and her students to higher levels within the
organization. I am very proud of the work she is doing and look forward to
working with her closely so that we can continue to improve her chapter and
the region."
Under her leadership, the Kappa Sigma chapter at South Georgia College
reached the Five Star level in the chapter development plan. Five Star is
the highest level that can be achieved. The club also serves as the Chapter
Relations Officer for the Georgia Region.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, is the largest
honor society in American higher education with more than 1,280 chapters on
college campuses in all 50 of the United States, Canada, Germany, Peru, the
Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated
States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates
and U.S. territorial possessions. Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is based
upon academic achievement. The organization offers opportunities for
scholarships, intellectual enrichment, and personal development through
programs based on the society’s hallmarks.
