Six SGC Tigers Claim District Swim Titles
The South Georgia College swim team participated in the
District 17 swim meet this past Saturday against Darton College in Albany.
Darton won the meet but the Tigers improved upon their performance from last
year by winning six first place championships in the individual events.
Capturing district titles for the Tigers were Kaitlyn Ward in both the 100
and 200 breast, T.J. Crossland in the 100 back, Joey Materne in the 400
individual medley, Paul Poorman in the 1,650 and Shelby Rumker in the 100
freestyle. Amanda Bennett also set a new school record in the 1,650 yard
swim by cutting her mile time an amazing 45 seconds.
“We have been working extremely hard of late preparing for Nationals in
March,” stated head coach C.M. Jenkins. “We did not have many cuts but we
did compete well and won more individual events than last year.”
This meet closes out the Tigers’ regular season swim schedule. All the
swimmers have qualified for nationals and will travel to Fort Pierce,
Florida, on March 7 to compete in the NJCAA swim meet.
