SGC Soccer Ends Regular Season with Impressive Wins
The men’s and women’s soccer teams at South Georgia College finished their
regular seasons with impressive wins Sunday afternoon. The women won easily
4-0 over Georgia Military College, while the men waited until overtime to
put away GMC 3-2, locking up the second seed in the playoffs in the process.
The Lady Tigers won their sixth straight game and continue to add to the
program’s winningest season, notching their 13th win with the shutout
victory. Payton Leffew, Kadie Naumann, Tiffany Morris and Kayla Herman each
scored a goal for SGC. Kaylee Horn had three saves in the contest to earn
another shutout on the season. "The ladies played a very nice game and
executed our game plan very well," said head coach Ken Kirsch. The Lady
Tigers hosted their first-round playoff game on Tuesday at home in a rematch
with Georgia Military. The Lady Tigers ended the regular season with an
impressive 13-5 record and 10-4 mark in the conference.
The men's soccer team won a thriller 3-2 in overtime and locked up the
second seed and a first-round bye in the playoffs. Matheus Silva, Luke Adams
and Ryan Davidson, who scored the game winner with 15 seconds left in the
first overtime period, each had a goal. The men halted their two-game skid
and now will await their opponent in the conference semi-final game, which
will take place Saturday at Georgia Perimeter College in Atlanta. "I felt
fitness was the difference on Sunday, " said Coach Kirsch. "That is the one
thing I can control and we work hard in August so we can be fit at the end
of the season. I am really happy for the men. We have experienced a great
deal of adversity this season and yet we keep battling.” The men finish the
regular season with an 11-6-1 record and 8-4 in the conference. The Tigers
will learn who their opponent in the playoffs will be later in the week.
