Lady Tigers Beat MGC in Overtime, Tied for Top Spot in Conference

After defeating Middle Georgia College in overtime on Thursday, Sept. 8, the South Georgia College Lady Tigers are tied atop the conference with Georgia Perimeter College. In the extra period, Tiffany Morris scored the game-winning goal for SGC. The Lady Tigers also have three players -- Tiffany Morris, Peyton Leffew and Monique Hollins -- in the conference’s top 11 in scoring.

The match with Middle Georgia was a hard fought win with MGC going up 1-0 early in the match. SGC soon equalized with a goal from Hollins on a nice cross from Leffew. Later in the first half, Morris took the ball on the right side and dribbled past two defenders and beat the keeper high to put the Lady Tigers up 2-1 at the half.

The second half began with a give-away goal for MGC after less than 10 seconds elapsed on the clock. So with the game tied at two, the second half continued with both sides mounting attacks and defending well. But before long, a player from MGC received a red card and her team was down a player. Not long after, another incident occurred and the game had to be stopped to sort out the problem. MGC received another red card and the Lady Tigers received two of their own. The game resumed, and with nine players each, neither team could score. Finally, in overtime, Morris took a well placed pass from Leffew and went one-on-one with the MGC keeper, placing the ball in the corner of the net for the win.

The Lady Tigers are on trip to Mississippi this to play two matches with Hinds and Meridian. The women have every intention of continuing their winning ways.
