New Look Lady Tigers Ready for 2011 Season
The South Georgia College Lady Tigers soccer team finished its pre-season
with a nice 4-1 win over ESCU, and a very close 0-1 loss to a strong Georgia
Southwestern University team. The Tigers played well in both matches with
several new players adding a welcomed depth to the squad. The women opened
the regular season on Aug. 29 versus Georgia Perimeter College at home.
Head coach Ken Kirsch expressed his pleasure at seeing his women play
together as a team, making good passes and playing aggressively the whole
game. “This year we have some options that weren’t there in the past,” said
Kirsch. “We recruited heavily and brought in 18 new players. Several of
those players are clearly going to help the squad. I am interested to see
who steps up and becomes a standout.”
With only four returning sophomores, the team has a new feel to it while at
the same time keeping with the style of play established last year. The
returning players are Monique Hollins, Emily Ingram, Marcillee McBean and
Kadie Naumann. “These four women are the leaders who want to establish a
close team unit, with everyone on the same page,” said Kirsch. “I’m looking
to them to lead through example.”
With a 19-game season, the Tigers will have to keep themselves focused if
they are to achieve up to their potential. “All in all, I’m really excited
about the possibilities. I haven’t seen this much talent here at SGC in the
last three years,” said Kirsch.
