Dr. Wilbur Shuler Named Interim VP for Business Affairs at SGC
Dr. Wilbur Shuler, who has served in various capacities at colleges and
universities in Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama, is now the Interim Vice
President for Business Affairs at South Georgia College.
Dr. Shuler has extensive experience in the area of higher education business
matters. He has held the position of chief business officer at South
Carolina State University, Ft. Valley State University, the University of
North Alabama, and Georgia Highlands College. Dr. Shuler earned a bachelor’s
degree in business at South Carolina State University, an MBA at Atlanta
University, a master of education at the University of South Carolina, and a
doctorate in higher education at the University of Memphis.
Dr. Shuler and his wife lived in Orangeburg, S.C., before taking this
position at SGC, which he will hold through Dec. 31, 2011. He has re-located
to Douglas while he serves SGC.
Dr. Virginia Carson, SGC President, and Dr. Shuler worked together at
Georgia Highlands College, where she was Vice President for Academic Affairs
and he was Vice President for Business Affairs. “Dr. Shuler is a great
friend. I very much enjoyed the time we served together at Georgia Highlands
College. This is an exciting yet challenging time in the history of South
Georgia College. I know Dr. Shuler to be a man of integrity and dedication,
and his expertise will prove invaluable as we press forward at this
institution,” states Dr. Carson.
“In the short time I have been on campus, I have found South Georgia College
and Douglas to be warm and friendly places. Progress abounds at this
college. I have already attended one ribbon cutting and we will have a
ground-breaking for another project shortly. I am enjoying working with Dr.
Carson again, and I look forward to serving this college to the best of my
ability,” says Dr. Shuler.
