SGC Lefty Named to Gold Glove Team
South
Georgia Tiger Brice Baker, a sophomore left-handed pitcher from Rome, has
been named to the Rawlings 2011 Gold Glove Team, according to an
announcement from the National Junior College Athletic Association and
Rawlings.
The Rawlings Gold Glove Award is the benchmark of excellence and performance
on the diamond in Major League Baseball. However, in 2007 the award began to
also symbolize the best of the best at the collegiate and high school
levels. For the fifth consecutive year, college and high school players
flashing serious leather were awarded Rawlings Gold Glove Awards as Rawlings
celebrates its 54th year of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award.
Baker did not commit an error during the 2011 season. He also posted an 8-6
record with a 5.97 ERA. “We stress fundamentals every day in practice at all
positions. Brice worked extremely hard on all facets of his game this year,
particularly on his defensive skills. All that work paid off, and this award
is proof of that. He is a very deserving young man,” says Jeff Timothy, SGC
head baseball coach.
