Tigers Fall to Georgia Perimeter
First baseman Seth Foster had three hits and second baseman
Wesley Morris drove in two runs in the South Georgia College Tigers’ 8-4
loss to Georgia Perimeter in Covington Wednesday night. The loss dropped the
Tigers to 26-24 overall and 13-9 in conference play with six games
remaining. SGC has already locked up a playoff berth; it’s just a matter now
of seeing where the Tigers will be seeded in the postseason tournament.
SGC scored one run in the first when center fielder Kelcey Butts came home
on a throwing error after leading off the game with a single and stolen
base. In the third inning, the Tigers plated three more runs. Shortstop
Logan Gaines started the rally with a single to lead off the inning. Catcher
David Reid-Foley was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second
with nobody out. Foster doubled, scoring Gaines and moving Reid-Foley to
third. Morris hit a sacrifice fly to right, which scored Reid-Foley and
advanced Foster to third. A Kenny Sanderson double plated Foster.
Those were the only runs the Tigers would score for the rest of the game.
Georgia Perimeter, meanwhile, touched four SGC pitchers for eight runs on 15
hits, including four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Starter Brice Baker
(8-3, 5.05) took the loss in five innings of work.
The Tigers face Georgia Perimeter again over the weekend, with one game on
Friday afternoon and a double-header Saturday at 1 p.m. These games are the
last home dates of the season, and the last home games of head coach Scott
Sims’s career. He will retire at the end of the season.
