Tigers Win Three Out of Four
It’s been a good week for the SGC Tigers. They have won
three out of their last four games and are now in third place in the
conference with a 10-6 record. Over the weekend, SGC swept region rivals
ABAC in a double-header at George A. Cook Stadium 9-4 and 4-0, and then
turned around a split a double-header with Brewton-Parker on Monday
afternoon by scores of 2-4 and 8-4.
In the first game against ABAC, Mikey Rodriguez (1-3, 5.48) earned the win
in three innings of relief. He came in for starter Frank Ambrosino, who had
to leave the game due to injury. The Tigers used a five-run first inning to
distance themselves from the Stallions, then added runs in the fourth, fifth
and sixth to put the game out of reach. First baseman Seth Foster had three
hits and shortstop Logan Gaines doubled in the win. For ABAC, Douglas native
and former Coffee High Trojan Jonathan Cowart (1-0, 3.65) threw two-thirds
of an inning in relief but did not factor in the decision.
Zack Hula (5-0, 1.59) and Hunter Ross (1) combined for the win and the save
as they shut out the Stallions in game two. Third baseman Jeremy Donaldson
drive in two runs and center fielder Kelcey Butts scored twice for SGC.
On Monday, Brewton-Parker got the better of SGC in the first game of the
double-header 4-2. Butts and Donaldson had two hits, while Chad Crook (0-3,
7.82) took the loss.
The Tigers righted the ship in the second game, scoring in the first,
second, fourth and sixth innings. Gaines led the way for the Tigers
offensively, going 2 for 3 with four RBI and two runs scored. He also hit
his team-leading fifth home run of the season. Second baseman Jonathan
Farabow was 3 for 3 with a run scored as well. Butts (2-0, 0.77), who also
had a hit from the lead-off spot, took the win in one inning of relief.
Roderick Franklin (1) got the save with three innings of work.
SGC is now 23-21 on the season and 10-6 in conference play. The Tigers face
East Georgia College in Douglas on April 12 at 5 p.m. They travel to
Swainsboro on April 14 and 16 for three more games against East Georgia
before returning home to play Middle Georgia on April 19 at 6 p.m.
