SGC to Participate in Multi-jurisdictional Emergency Preparedness Drill on April 22

South Georgia College is committed to providing the safest environment possible for its students, faculty, staff and the local residents who live adjacent to campus. As a part of the College’s continuing commitment to safety, SGC will host an emergency preparedness drill on Friday, April 22, beginning at 8 a.m.

This drill, the first of its kind at SGC, is a multi-jurisdictional training exercise involving SGC staff; city, county and state law enforcement agencies as well as local emergency personnel. The exercise will also involve the closing of College Park Drive for a portion of the day during the exercise. Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route on this day. Citizens of Douglas may see emergency vehicles on campus or hear SGC’s emergency alarm system during the morning of April 22. This is all part of the test and there is no cause for concern. This date has been chosen because fewer students will be on campus and thus will minimize disruption for the campus and community.

“At South Georgia College, we have a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan in place that addresses a wide array of emergency situations, such as the type we will test on April 22, 2011. This drill will highlight the strengths of our plan and also show us areas in which we need to improve. We look forward to working with various government agencies and emergency personnel to help ensure SGC is well prepared should our emergency plan be needed,” comments Sonja McCulloch, SGC’s Director of Public Safety.
