Tigers Soccer Improves to 3-1 in Spring Play
The SGC Tigers men’s soccer team went 1-1 on Saturday to
boost their spring record to 3-1.
The men played Thomas University in the first game and held a 1-0 lead with
about 20 minutes left but conceded two late goals in the loss. “I was
pleased with how we competed but was disappointed in the late goals because
both were mistakes we could have avoided,” said head coach Ken Kirsch.
Freshman Charles Jones scored his first goal as a Tiger; he was assisted by
Matheus Silva. Sam Wise made five saves in the contest.
In the second game, the Tigers were able to find the back of the net two
times as they won 2-0 over Emerald Coast Soccer Club. Matheus Silva and
Ricky Garcia each scored and Sam Wise had an assist in the contest. “We have
stressed individual and team defense this spring and I was very happy with
the shutout,” noted Coach Kirsch. Jeff Dumond made four saves to preserve
the shutout. Matheus Silva continued his hot start as a Tiger with a goal
and assist on the day bringing his total to eight goals in the spring. “I am
happy I can help the team,” said Silva. “Scoring is what I was brought in
for and that is what I am trying to do.” The men play next on Sunday April 3
in another two game outing. The Tigers will play Georgia Southern University
and Tallahassee United.
