Tigers Fall to Andrew College in Slugfest

The South Georgia College Tigers dropped to 1-4 in conference play after losing 16-14 to Andrew College earlier this week. The two teams used a total of 10 pitchers and totaled 31 hits during the contest.

SGC jumped out to an early lead but the Tigers found themselves trailing Andrew 6-4 at the end of four innings. After a scoreless fifth for both teams, SGC appeared to put the game in the bag when the Tigers exploded for 10 runs on eight hits and one Andrew College error to take a 10-6 lead in the sixth inning. Andrew seemed unfazed by the barrage and chipped away at the Tigers’ advantage, scoring five runs in its half of the sixth and seventh to pull ahead 16-14. SGC wasn’t able to answer and couldn’t get anyone across the plate in the last three innings.

Several Tigers turned in solid offensive performances: center fielder Kelcey Butts (3-6, three runs, four RBI, one double), catcher David Reid-Foley (3-5, two runs, two RBI), third baseman Jeremy Donaldson (3-6, two runs, four RBI, two doubles) and designated hitter Brandon Cruce (5-6, two runs). Mikey Rodriguez (0-3, 7.97), SGC’s third pitcher of the day, took the loss in two innings of work.

The Tigers are in action this weekend, again against Andrew. After one game on Friday night, the two teams will play a Saturday afternoon double-header beginning at 2 p.m.
