The men’s soccer team opened up their 2011 spring season in impressive fashion.

The Tigers played host to Tallahassee Untied and a local men’s team on Saturday and won both contests convincingly. “We played 120 minutes of good soccer today,” said head coach Ken Kirsch, “but we will play much stiffer competition in our upcoming games.” The Tigers scored 13 goals combined in both games and did not concede a goal in either contest. New forwards Matheus Silva (Brazil) and Ricky Garcia (Atkinson County) scored 10 goals together while Sam Wise (Columbus) and Jeff Dumond (Augusta) tallied seven saves. “We need to be better defensively,” noted Coach Kirsch. “This has been a focus the past couple of weeks.”

New defender Jon Clifford (Scotland) and returning center back Emmanuel Goncalves (Brazil) were very strong in the back on Saturday. “Coach brought me in the help organize the defense and be a leader,” said Clifford. “This is going to be my focus.”

The Tigers will be off this weekend but will host Thomas University on Saturday, March 26.
