SGC to Host STEM Showcase in April
South Georgia College, a two-year institution of the
University System of Georgia dedicated to creating interest in science,
technology, engineering and math (STEM), has announced a STEM Showcase
Weekend for high school juniors and seniors. This event will be held April
29 and 30 on the SGC campus in Douglas.
The overnight event will be filled with activities for those students
interested in exploring STEM careers in a fun and educational environment.
Participants will attend sessions on physics, chemistry and biology
presented in an entertaining way as well as learn more about South Georgia
College and its STEM degree programs.
The weekend will begin on Friday with an opening banquet and keynote speaker
and social and recreational activities coordinated by the Student Activities
staff of SGC. Saturday will be filled with sessions led by STEM faculty,
presentations on college admissions and financial aid, and a panel
discussion with notable STEM professionals from around the region. Parents
or guardians are welcome to attend and stay on campus in the dorms as well
as participate in parent sessions and campus tours. Lodging in Floyd Hall
and meals will be furnished for all participants. The cost for a student
participant is $25 and the cost for each parent/guardian staying on campus
is $15.
