Tigers Take Weekend Series 2-1 Over Blue Storm
A Seth Foster grand slam in the bottom of the first inning
put the South Georgia College Tigers up 4-0 over Southwestern Illinois on
Sunday afternoon at Crider Field. From there, the Tigers rolled on and never
looked back, defeating the Blue Storm 16-8. On Saturday, the Tigers split a
double-header with Southwestern Illinois, losing game one 8-2 then winning
the nightcap 4-1.
Foster’s home run, his first of the season, set a tone for the rest of the
game. SGC scored runs in bunches throughout the contest, including four in
the bottom of the fifth – three of which came off a David Reid-Foley (1)
home run. Reid-Foley and Foster both had five RBI in the game. Kelcey Butts,
Zack Hula and Reid-Foley each scored three runs. Starter Dylan Wall (2-2,
6.38) earned the win with five innings of work.
In game one of the series on Saturday afternoon, SGC just couldn’t muster
any offense. The Tigers’ two runs didn’t come until the bottom of the eighth
inning. Brice Baker (3-1, 3.95), SGC’s starting pitcher, ended up with his
first loss of the season. Foster and left fielder Kenny Sanderson each had
two hits for the Tigers.
The Blue Storm led the second game 1-0 until the fifth inning when SGC got
on the board with one run. An inning later, the Tigers plated three more to
take a 4-1 lead that held through the seventh inning. Zack Hula (3-0, 1.02)
threw a complete game and went 1-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run
scored. Shortstop Logan Gaines also had two hits and an RBI.
The Tigers are now 11-13 on the season. Tuesday, they opened conference play
with a single game against Gordon College at Crider Field in Douglas.
Results were unavailable at press time.
