SGC SWIM TIGERS DO WELL AT INAUGURAL MEET

The first ever swim team of South Georgia College travelled seven hours north to Sewanee Tennessee last weekend to compete in the University of the South Invitational meet. The swimming Tigers faired very well at the two day meet with the Men’s team finishing in 4th place and the Women finishing 6th. There were 10 four year schools there from the states of Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky and SGC was the only Junior College team attending. Sewanee won the female side of the meet while the University of the Cumberlands won the Men’s competition.

“Considering this is our first year competing and we were the only Juco team present I am pleased with where our young Men and Women finished in the meet,” Stated Head Coach CM Jenkins. “We certainly opened some eyes at the meet with our athlete’s performance.”

Leading the Women’s team was Richmond Hill native Kaitlyn Ward. Ward had three 3rd place finishes and one 5th and one 8th place. Woodstock native TJ Crossland led the men with two 4th place finishes and one 5th, one 7th and an 8th place result.

Former Coffee High school swimmers Travis Jenkins and Joshua Harrell also earned points at the meet. Harrell had three top 8 places with Jenkins earning three places. Warner Robins swimmer Paul Poorman also earned points for the Tigers while Brunswick High swimmer Stephanie Crews and Athens native Oksana Hutchins placed for the women’s team.
