SGC Men, Women Fall to Darton
Darton College swept the SGC soccer teams Wednesday evening
in Albany, bringing the Lady Tigers’ record to 5-5 on the season while the
men stand at 5-4-2.
The Lady Tigers played a strong game against the nationally ranked Lady
Cavaliers. SGC lost 0-5 in really a game of two halves. “The ladies gave
away three of the five goals in the first half and we cannot do that against
a team of that caliber,” noted head coach Ken Kirsch. The ladies played a
much better second half, keeping Darton off the scoreboard. The women are
now 5-5 on the year. Friday, they played host to Georgia Perimeter (results
were unavailable at press time) and then host ABAC on Monday in a big game
that may determine which team will host a first round playoff match.
The men’s team lost a heartbreaker on Wednesday night 0-1 against Darton
College. Darton was awarded a penalty kick with three minutes left in the
game, which proved to be the only score in the contest. “It was a horrible
thing that happened to our men. They played so hard and so well and to have
the game taken like that was not fair to them,” said Coach Kirsch. Sam Wise
was superb in registering six saves, one being a spectacular save on another
Cavaliers penalty shot. It was a spirited contest and the Tigers had several
scoring chances but just could not find that goal to propel them to victory.
The men are now 5-4-2 and do not play until next Thursday at Georgia
Military College.
