SGC Men, Women Finish Week Undefeated
The SGC soccer teams are hitting their collective strides at
the right time and had a very week, going undefeated while playing a very
exciting brand of soccer.
The Lady Tigers have now surpassed their total win output from a year ago by
the mid-season mark. The women beat Georgia Military College 1-0 on Thursday
on a goal from freshman Chelsea Waters. The Lady Tigers played a strong
defensive game and took their fourth shutout on the season. Ashley Kramer
made 10 saves in the contest. On Friday, the Lady Tigers exploded for five
goals to beat Gordon College. Kadie Naumann led the way, scoring two
beautiful goals and adding an assist. Monique Hollins also put two goals
away and Natalie Ochoa scored her first goal of the season to complete the
score. The Lady Tigers are now 5-4 on the season. “I am very proud of the
girls,” noted head coach Ken Kirsch. “We have already surpassed several
marks from last season and we are continuing to get better.” The Lady Tigers
travel to Darton today and host GPC on Friday this week.
The men swept the week also. They played a very quick passing game against
Georgia Military to earn the 6-0 shut-out. Felipe Nascimento and Matt Sutton
both scored two goals in the contest and Joe Alexander added a goal and an
assist. Sam Wise earned the shutout, notching four saves. On Friday, the
Tigers earned their fifth win on the year by defeating Gordon College 2-0.
Nascimento scored his ninth goal on the season and Johnny Waters added the
other. “It is about time we start to have some clean sheets from the
defense,” said Coach Kirsch. “We are really starting to play the game we
teach here and hopefully we will continue this trend.” The men are now 5-3-2
on the year and have a tough game on today as they also travel to Darton.
