SGC Soccer Wins at Gordon
Last Friday, Sept. 3, the men’s and women’s soccer teams traveled to Gordon
College and both came away with wins.
The men’s earned their first win of the season with a 4-1 victory over
Gordon. “It feels good to finally get our first win under our belt,” noted
Coach Ken Kirsch. “We did some really good things against Gordon.” Felipe
Nascimento lead the way notching two goals while the defensive unit almost
earned the shutout if not for a late goal by Gordon. Joe Alexander scored
his second goal of the season and Gerald Jonah finished the scoring. Jeff
Dumond tallied six saves in the win.
The women won by a score of 4-0 in opening conference play. Jody Bethune
scored two more goals and now has four in two games. The Lady Tigers
recorded another shutout with Ashley Kramer having three saves in the
contest. “We are a much more competitive team this season. The ladies are
working hard in practice and in games,” said Coach Kirsch. Kasie Cheney and
Monique Hollins each scored their first collegiate goals and Marcillee
McBean had two assists.
Both teams are in action today against Darton College on the SGC soccer
pitch. The women begin at noon, and the men’s game is scheduled for 2:30
p.m.
