SGC Announces Ribbon Cutting for New Residence Halls

South Georgia College, the SGC Foundation, Ambling University Development Group, and Juneau Construction are excited to announce the ribbon cutting for the College’s new three-story, 292-bed apartment-style residence hall, Tiger Village II.

A little over one year after crews began prepping the construction site, on August 6, 2009, the project is finished. The College and its partners will host a ribbon cutting to recognize the completion of Tiger Village II on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at 9 a.m. The new dorms are located on the southwest portion of the campus, right beside Shannon Hall and near the college’s baseball stadium. Tiger Village II is the second such building project the College has undertaken in the last three years. Completed in 2007, Tiger Village, which houses 252 students in modern two- and four-bedroom apartments, has been an immediate hit and has been filled to capacity since it was completed. New student housing is an important component in recruiting more students to any campus, and SGC is confident that Tiger Village II will bring even more students to the College.

The construction of Tiger Village II has been made possible by a public-private partnership among the University System of Georgia Board of Regents, the South Georgia College Foundation, and the Coffee-Atkinson County Development Authority. The presence of Tiger Village II has already made an immediate impact at SGC. Enrollment applications for Fall 2010 are up significantly from a year ago, and the new residence halls are a big reason for the increase. “A growing college contributes to growth throughout the community and the region. As South Georgia College has seen its enrollment top 2,000 students, the economic impact the College makes on the community has risen as well. Now, the College contributes over $48 million to the local economy. As Tiger Village II helps us recruit more students, that impact will continue to increase. We are very thankful that our partners on the Foundation, in Atlanta, and in Atkinson County recognize the importance of this project. Tiger Village II will help create a brighter future for this institution and this area,” says Dr. Virginia Carson, SGC President.

The ribbon cutting will be held in front of Tiger Village II. The public is invited to attend.
