SGC’s Dr. Jim Cottingham to Retire, Reception on June
29
After
32 years of service to South Georgia College, Dr. Jim Cottingham, Vice
President for Student Affairs, will retire on June 30, 2010. To honor Dr.
Cottingham and his dedication to SGC, the college will host a reception on
Tuesday, June 29, 2010, inside the historic Clower Student Center on the SGC
campus. The reception will take place from 4-6 p.m. and the public is
invited to attend.
As professor of education and psychology, Dr. Cottingham taught and served
as an academic advisor prior to assuming his present administrative role in
1995. Having graduated from South Georgia College in 1974, he completed
additional degrees at Appalachian State University, Columbia University, and
the University of Georgia.
“Jim Cottingham has been an important part of South Georgia College for over
three decades. His influence can be seen in almost areas of campus life. His
knowledge of higher education in general and SGC in particular is
unparalleled. We will miss Dr. Cottingham but we are excited for both him
and his family as he begins this new chapter in his life,” says Dr. Virginia
Carson, SGC President.
