Jeff Davis Senior Signs with Lady Tigers
Ashley
Williams, a senior at Jeff Davis High School, has signed a scholarship to
play softball at South Georgia College. Ashley, a talented player who can
fill a number of roles for the Lady Tigers, will compete for playing time
next season.
Jeff Davis County has a reputation for turning out quality players who have
done very well at SGC. With Ashley, there’s no reason to think that legacy
will end any time soon. “Shannon Carter and Summer Daniels both came from
Jeff Davis and were good players for us. We’re looking for the same thing
from Ashley,” says head coach Rob Brunel. “She’s a multi-talented player
with a good arm who knows how to play the game.”
Ashley can play just about anywhere on the field. Coach Brunel says it’s
conceivable that Ashley could pitch, play on the infield and see playing
time in the outfield. She is capable of throwing in the mid- to upper-50’s
with good movement. She hits the corners well and does a good job of
changing the eye level of hitters. Ashley also has great speed, which is
what might land her in the outfield when she isn’t pitching. She’s a good
hitter who makes contact and puts pressure on the defense. “We’re losing 11
players off this year’s team. Ashley is the 11th player we’ve signed and she
really adds depth to the team. We’re looking for great things out of her.
She’s going to be a good player for us,” says Coach Brunel.
