Lady Tigers Drop 3 Straight, Still in Playoff Hunt
The South Georgia College Lady Tigers are still in search of
a post-season berth but they’re probably going to need some help in getting
to the playoffs.
SGC played four conference games last week – two each to Andrew College and
Gordon College – and only won one. The losses dropped the Lady Tigers to
18-20 overall and 6-8 in conference play. Still, head coach Rob Brunel’s
team has a chance to get to the post-season tournament. Once you get there,
anything can happen.
Last Wednesday, SGC won game one against Andrew 6-4. After that, they lost
three in a row – 7-1 to Andrew, and 4-1 and 10-1 to Gordon. “Pitching was an
issue in those losses,” said Coach Brunel. “We’re still in it but we’re
going to need some help. We started last week in fourth place. Now, we’re
several places lower.” The top six teams in the conference advance.
Today, the Lady Tigers travel to Albany to face Darton in the last two games
of the season. SGC needs to sweep the Cavaliers. After Wednesday, Darton
needs to win its remaining games to help the Lady Tigers. Despite the
challenges, Coach Brunel believes the 2010 season has been a success. “We’ve
had a good year. We’re very young and inexperienced, but our freshmen have
really played well. The sophomores have also done a good job,” he said.
Most of the teams finish their seasons this weekend. By Tuesday of next
week, the play-off picture will be much clearer.
