South Georgia College Names Tiger Senators for 2010
South Georgia College has named its 2010 Tiger Senators, the
highly-esteemed campus group that serves as official student spokespersons
and representative for the campus. The Tiger Senators represent every
organization on campus and are very active in campus activities, faith-based
activities, and community activities, all while maintaining very high grade
point averages. They were nominated because they stand out from their peers
as leaders and as dependable workers. The Tiger Senators will work
throughout this school year to develop their leadership skills through
retreats, seminars, and service activities.
Membership in this group requires a nomination from a faculty member or an
administrator, and the criteria include leadership ability, academic
achievement, extra-curricular involvement, and a strong work ethic. The
Tiger Senators have already been extremely busy, beginning the year with a
retreat on January 22. Dr. Jim Cottingham, Vice President for Student
Affairs, led the group on a behind-the-scenes tour of the campus. Dr. Randy
Braswell, Director of Admissions and Records, worked with the group on
business etiquette and interviewing skills. Two local entrepreneurs, Luke
Christian and Adam Smith, shared their insight into business success and
leadership. On February 18, the Tiger Senators hosted Mr. Erroll B. Davis,
Chancellor of the University System of Georgia. With over 300,000 students
in the University System, a time like this for the SGC Tiger Senators to
interact one-on-one with the Chancellor and relate to him their concerns in
a private meeting represents an opportunity only a very small percentage of
students ever realize.
In April, the Senators will meet with President Virginia Carson and the
Vice-Presidents for Business, Student and Academic Affairs, and will confer
with them concerning campus leadership. The Senators also serve as hosts for
campus events, including South Georgia College’s graduation ceremony on May
6.

(Douglas), Anna Braswell (Douglas), Isis Cain (Florence, SC), Justin Deen
(Douglas), Ivan De Los Santos (Fitzgerald), Stuart Drew (Douglas), Lavena
