Renowned Author, JFK Historian Lamar Waldron to Visit SGC

Thursday, February 25, South Georgia College will host renowned John F. Kennedy historian and author Lamar Waldron on campus for a special discussion of his explosive new release Legacy of Secrecy, which outlines how the Mafia planned and carried out the murder of President John F. Kennedy.

Waldron, who lives in Atlanta but has close family ties to Douglas, is considered to be one of the foremost JFK historians in the nation. The updated edition of Legacy of Secrecy, which he co-authored with Thom Hartmann, contains new information and completes the story of how a top secret plan of John and Robert Kennedy to stage a coup against Fidel Castro on December 1, 1963 -- with the help of Cuban Army Commander Juan Almeida -- was used by three powerful Mafia bosses to murder President Kennedy.

The authors researched Legacy of Secrecy extensively and sourced government documents from the National Archives throughout the book. Waldron and Hartmann have been featured in a Discovery Channel special titled "Did the Mob Kill JFK?" produced by NBC. It premiered Nov. 22, 2009, on the Discovery Channel, and has continued to air regularly on Discovery. Legacy of Secrecy has garnered much critical praise since its release. The Atlanta Journal Constitution wrote “’Their research is punctilious, overwhelming and persuasive,’ said Ronald Goldfarb, a Mafia prosecutor for former Attorney General Robert Kennedy.” According to Fox and Friends, the book is a “page turner . . . absolutely fascinating.” Syndicated columnist Liz Smith wrote that “Lamar Waldron . . . deserves his own Pulitzer Prize for his great work.” Legacy of Secrecy also describes common threads – and characters – among the assassinations of JFK, RFK and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., including a southern Georgia connection.

Thursday’s presentation will take place at 2 p.m. in the William S. Smith Library on the SGC campus. The public is invited to attend. Admission is free.
