SGC opens semester with record spring enrollment
Continuing a trend of growth that South Georgia College has
enjoyed over the last several years, the College opened for Spring Semester
2010 on Jan. 6 with a record enrollment.
Enrollment is up about 10 percent over Spring 2009, bringing the number of
students at SGC to 1,927, an increase of 169 students from last year. That
number reflects online classes, the entry programs at Valdosta State
University and Georgia Southwestern State University, nursing students at
Waycross College, and the campus in Douglas.
During Fall Semester 2009, SGC achieved an important milestone, reaching a
total enrollment of 2,000 students. That the spring term remains so close to
2,000 students is exciting for SGC. “One of the main objectives for South
Georgia College is to recruit new students and retain its current students.
When the number of students on our campuses continues to grow in this
fashion, we see the true dedication our faculty and staff have to this
institution and its students,” said Dr. Virginia M. Carson, SGC President.
“We are committed to providing a top-notch education to each and every one
of these 1,927 students as we move toward our USG-supported goal of 3,000
students by 2013.
