SGC Foundation recognizes scholarship recipients

At the most recent meeting of the South Georgia College Foundation, the Foundation recognized two scholarship recipients. Alexis McCloon, a freshman pre-pharmacy major from Jeff Davis County, has received the Ivey W. Moorman Medical Scholarship. The Moorman scholarship funds two years at SGC for students of high academic ability who plan to receive a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree. Alexis and her mother, Dr. Cecilia McCloon, attended the meeting.

The Foundation also recognized Brittany Yates, a sophomore pre-pharmacy major from Douglasville. Brittany is the recipient of the Lions Club/Cross Scholarship, named in honor of long-time Lion Charles Cross. A member of the Douglas Lions Club since 1978, Cross is a past president of the club and member of the Fair Board. He is the owner of Cross Appraisals since 1983, is a retired major in the Army National Guard and is a part-time deputy sheriff.

“The South Georgia College Foundation is very pleased to award these scholarships to these two deserving students. They represent their families, their communities and South Georgia College very well. We are also very appreciative of our community partners and friends who so generously contribute to the Foundation and the future success of our students. Without their philanthropy, we wouldn’t be able to provide these opportunities to our students,” said Luke Morgan, SGC Foundation president.
