Stuart Drew signs with West Georgia College Wolves
South Georgia College second baseman Stuart Drew has one
less decision to make. The 5’6”, 145 pound former Trojan will continue his
playing career with West Georgia College after signing a scholarship with
the Wolves Tuesday afternoon.
Drew,
a 2008 graduate of Coffee High School, had an excellent freshman season with
the Tigers. He led the team in hitting, batting .393 with one home run and
24 RBI, mainly from the lead-off spot. Drew also posted a .438 on-base
percentage, had 12 doubles and 14 stolen bases. Drew was among the defensive
leaders on the 2009 Tigers with a .940 fielding percentage. He played in 53
of SGC’s 54 games.
Signing with West Georgia takes a big load off the second baseman’s back,
giving him one less thing to worry about as the upcoming SGC baseball season
approaches. Drew is expected to play an integral role in the Tigers’ 2010
campaign. “He’s the epitome of a student athlete. He’s a quiet leader who
lets the way he plays the game do the talking for him. It doesn’t matter who
you’re playing or what the situation is, he’s going to do something every
game to help you win,” says SGC head coach Scott Sims.
Drew says he felt right at home when he visited West Georgia. “I like their
program. They’ve got good facilities and a great coaching staff. I feel like
I’ll have the chance to make an impact immediately,” says Drew. He also had
nothing but good things to say about Coach Sims and the SGC program.
“Playing at South Georgia College is a great experience. I’ve been able to
play college baseball and stay close to home. Coach Sims and SGC have
prepared me to take this next step in my athletic career.”
Drew will report to West Georgia in the summer, a few weeks after the
Tigers’ season ends.
