SGC Men Preparing for Post-season

The South Georgia College soccer teams are wrapping up their seasons, and the men are preparing for the first round of the play-offs while the women are re-grouping for next year.

On Oct. 13, the women played their best and most complete game, but could not score against ABAC. The game went to overtime, and ABAC came away with the victory by a slim 1-0 margin. SGC dictated much of the game, but could not capitalize on its scoring opportunities. The Lady Tigers are playing their best soccer of the season, but it’s a little too late to impact the post-season. Megan Shinholser recorded five saves in the loss. Laura Navarro played a solid game registering two shots on frame, and Jody Bethune and Rebecca Carlin both had three shots on goal each.

SGC is 3-7 on the season, and finishes up this week with three games, all on the road. The Lady Tigers play their final game of the year on Sunday at Middle Georgia.

On Oct. 18, the men stopped their losing skid with a 6-4 win over USC-Salkehatchie. Felipe Nascimento lead the way with three goals and an assist with Lawerence Anuforo adding two goals and assist. Sylvanns Anuforo scored the sixth and final goal of the day. Matt Sutton, Joel Salazar and Gerald Jonah added assists in the game. Daniel Williams earned his third win of the year with five saves.

The men are now 7-6-1 on the year and played Tuesday at Georgia Military. Sunday, they travel to Middle Georgia. On Oct. 28, the Tigers will head to the mountains to face Young Harris in the first round of the play-offs.
