SGC men split with Brewton Parker and Andrew, women fall to ABAC

The South Georgia College Tigers ended a three-game skid last Wednesday with a 5-1 win over Brewton Parker at home.

The Tigers played a nice possession game but still missed several scoring opportunities. Lawerence Anuforo led the way with one goal and two assists. Felipe Nascimento had a goal and one assist. Nuno Gourgel had a goal and Christian Acevedo had one as well. Other assists came from Sylvanns Anuforo (two), Tyler Hooks, Joao Mendes, Johnny Waters and Jon-Michael White. Josh Brooks earned his fourth win with three saves.

Saturday, the men lost a heartbreaker 2-3 to Andrew College. The Tigers had two red cards and were down to eight players on the field. Despite the disadvantage, SGC dominated the game but could not find the equalizer. The Tigers had an own goal and Brewton Parker also had penalty shots for two of their three goals. Felipe Nascimento scored his ninth goal of the season and Joel Salazar scored his fifth of the season. Joao Mendes also had an assist. Josh Brooks ended the match with a total of three saves. The Tigers are now 5-4-1 and in jeopardy of not making the region tournament. “We played hard and fought the adversity we were dealt with but we could not find the back of the net,” said head coach Ken Kirsch. SGC is 5-4-1 after the loss to Andrew.

Monday afternoon, the Lady Tigers fell to 2-4 on the season with a loss to ABAC in Douglas.

The Lady Tigers are in action Friday, Oct. 2 against Georgia Perimeter in Douglas. The men face USC-Salkehatchie Monday, Oct. 5, also in Douglas.
