SGC runners bring home hardware from Tifton
Oscar
Alvarado came in third overall and two of his South Georgia College cross
country teammates also finished in the top 10 at the Jog for Jake 5K in
Tifton Saturday night. In the women’s race, Shemeka Brown turned in a
personal best 23:52 and was the fourth female to cross the line.
The Tigers’ cross country squad had the week off after two weeks in a row of
meets. Five team members took advantage of the open date and participated in
the Jog for Jake. It paid off well for each one. Alvarado, Angel Garet and
Brown each won their respective age groups. Garet and Logan McCrea, who
finished fourth in his age group, made the top 10. Andrew Palmer turned in a
sub-8:00 per mile race to also set a personal best 5K.
The SGC team plans to run another local 5K, this time in Blackshear, on
Saturday, Oct. 3. They return to GJCAA competition at The Southern Challenge
in Marietta on Saturday, Oct. 10.
