SGC soccer remains undefeated
The SGC Tigers soccer teams continued their winning ways
this week, with both the women’s and men’s teams defeating Georgia Military
in dominating fashion on the SGC pitch in Douglas on Wednesday.
In the women’s game, the Jamaican duo of Marcillee McBean and Jody Bethune
were dominant, combining for all five of the Lady Tigers’ goals. Jody had
two goals and two assists, while Marcillee had three goals and one assist.
Keeper Laura Navarro recorded five saves on the day. The women are 2-0
overall and in the conference.
The SGC men came out on top by a score of 12-0 and, like the women’s team,
remain undefeated on the season. Eight different players scored goals and
seven others earned assists. Joel Salazar led the team with two goals and
three assists. Christian Acevedo and Felipe Nascimento each had a pair of
goals and assists as well. Gerald Jonah had two goals and one assist. Keeper
Josh Brooks earned his second consecutive shutout, turning in three saves in
the contest. The men are now 3-0 overall and in the conference.
Next week both squads get into the meat of their schedules with two very
good games. The men and women both play at Darton on Thursday. The men
return home Saturday, Sept. 12 for a showdown with Georgia Perimeter in what
should be an excellent game.
