Crystal Greer named to All Region softball team

Crystal Greer, the SGC Lady Tigers’ leading hitter and centerfielder, has been named to the Region XVII All Region Second Team for the second season in a row.

Despite a difficult season, Crystal played well all year long and improved her offensive production over the 2008 campaign. Batting in the lead-off spot, Crystal hit .395 with one home run and eight RBI. She stole 15 bases – over half of the Lady Tigers’ 28 stolen bases on the season. Crystal also had six doubles, a triple and scored 17 runs. She struck out just six times in 81 at-bats.

Crystal, a pre-allied health major who would like to be a registered nurse, is from Perry. She came to SGC to play soccer and softball. In the 2007 soccer season, she played in all 18 games and tallied 15 points (four of which were goals). This soccer season, Crystal had another solid year, scoring five goals for the Lady Tigers. She was an integral part of SGC’s 2008 state championship softball team, batting .330 with four doubles, two triples and 15 RBI.

“Crystal is a hard worker who plays the game the right way. She’s been an important part of our team since she arrived, and she’s very deserving of this honor. We hate to see her leave but we know she will be successful in the future,” says SGC softball coach and athletic director Rob Brunel.

Crystal has not decided where she will attend college after graduating from SGC. She plans to continue her athletic career and is considering offers from several schools.
