Two Tigers make All Region team

The South Georgia College Tigers' top two hitters, second baseman Stuart Drew and outfielder Justin Roberts, were named to the Region XVII All Region team on Tuesday, April 28.

Drew, one of four Douglas players on the Tigers' squad and SGC's only member of the All Region First Team, is a freshman whose college career began with a single. He started the season on a tear and really never slowed down. "He plays hard every day and never changes whether things are going good or bad. He's a leader by example," says head coach Scott Sims.

Drew spent most of the year batting second behind center fielder Zack Kilday. He finished the regular season with the Tigers' best batting average, .386. Drew hit one home run and drove in 22 runs. He posted a .457 slugging percentage, .431 on-base percentage and struck out just 14 times in 197 at-bats. Drew also finished with a .939 fielding percentage. "He had an outstanding year," said Coach Sims.

Roberts, a sophomore from Bogart who attended North Oconee High, was named All Region Second Team. He earned a spot with the Tigers as a walk-on in the fall. He made a surge at the end of the year and finished with a .386 batting average, second only to Drew. He had a home run and 31 RBI, a .450 slugging percentage and .403 on-base percentage. Roberts was solid in the outfield with a .968 fielding percentage. He made just three errors all season.

"Both are very deserving, great kids and outstanding students as well," said Coach Sims.
