SGC in playoffs despite three-game sweep by Young Harris

The SGC Tigers are in the playoffs despite a three-game sweep at the hands of the Young Harris Mountain Lions this past weekend. Young Harris defeated SGC 14-4 in game one, 16-6 in game two and 11-3 in game three.

Starter Michael Baker (2-2, 5.40) took the loss in game one after allowing seven earned runs in three innings of work.

The Tigers managed to score three in the fourth and one in the fifth on 10 hits. However, the Mountain Lions plated runs in every inning from the third through the seventh on 17 total hits.

Zack Kilday, Justin Roberts, Austin Palmer and Andrew Anderson each had two hits for the Tigers.

In game two of the series, four SGC errors helped the Mountain Lions score 16 runs. As was the case in the first game, Young Harris scored early and often. SGC showed some signs of life, scoring five in the top of the first. Unfortunately, SGC wouldn't score again until the fifth inning when Justin Roberts hit a solo home run, his first of the year.
Ryan Whiddon (3-5, 4.48) lasted 3 1/3 innings and gave up eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits.

Roberts didn't seem fooled by the Young Harris staff; he was 3 for 3 with two RBI and scored two runs. Kilday, Stuart Drew and Keenan Ivey had a pair of hits for SGC.
The final game of the series didn't go much better. Justin Newsome (1-2, 6.05) took the loss. Roberts was again the top hitter with a 2 for 3 day.

The Tigers finished eighth in the conference with a 7-17 record (24-30 overall) and play Georgia Perimeter, the conference's number one team, this weekend. SGC will travel to Covington for a 7 p.m. game Friday. Game two takes place at 2 p.m. Saturday. The third game, if necessary, is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday. The winner of the weekend series will play in the conference tournament beginning Friday, May 8 at Crider Field in Douglas.
