SGC Senior Night draws large crowd from four counties
Over 50 people from four different counties participated in
South Georgia College’s first ever Senior Night, which the college hosted in
the Engram Ballroom on Tuesday, Feb. 17. High school students and their
families from Coffee, Bacon, Atkinson and Clinch counties attended the
event.
The purpose of Senior Night was to provide important information to seniors
who are interested in attending South Georgia College so that students will
be prepared for college when they finish high school. All area high school
seniors and their parents were invited to Senior Night.
Enrolling in college is a simple process if you have the correct information
and submit the required paperwork in a timely fashion. At Senior Night,
college staff and faculty explained the paperwork and deadlines that are
involved in the registration process. Representatives from Financial Aid,
Admissions, Student Life, Housing and the Office of Advancement were on hand
to share this information with potential students and parents. They also
discussed financial assistance and key dates for enrolling at SGC.
Dr. Randy Braswell, Director of Admissions, Records and
Research, outlined five important steps to registering for college:
-
Submit application and application fee.
-
Submit high school transcripts.
-
Submit immunization records.
-
Submit appropriate test scores ((SAT or ACT) and/or
Compass).
-
If appropriate, submit prior college transcripts.
“These steps are vital to the registration process. Taking
care of these steps early ensures that the transition from high school to
college is as seamless as possible,” said Dr. Braswell.
Here are key dates to remember for high school seniors who
would like to attend SGC:
• June 8, 2009: Financial Aid priority deadline
• July 31, 2009: Admissions Application priority
deadline
• Aug. 13-14, 2009: Registration for fall classes
Dr. Virginia Carson, SGC president, was pleased to see such a large crowd
for the event. “We are very happy to see you on the South Georgia College
campus. This is an exciting, growing institution. The opportunities an
education from this college offers are limitless. We are pleased you are
interested in attending this college and we look forward to assisting you in
any way possible,” she said.
