SGC takes community bus tour
The Chamber of Commerce recently treated South
Georgia College staff and faculty to a bus tour of Douglas and Coffee
County.
The tour, which Chamber President JoAnne Lewis hosted, involved a number of
key businesses, industries and landmarks in the community. During the tour,
Lewis shared the story of Coffee County’s economic successes and in
particular highlighted the partnerships that have helped bring thousands of
jobs to this community. The tour was an eye-opening experience for a number
of the participants, many of whom commute or only recently moved to Coffee
County. Interim President Dr. Virginia Carson conceived the idea of the tour
as a way to facilitate a further connection between SGC and the community.
“South Georgia College and this community are closely intertwined. The
success of one depends on the other. What Coffee County has done in terms of
economic development is astounding. Equally astounding is the growth SGC has
experienced over the last few years. The bus tour demonstrated the strengths
of Douglas and Coffee County, and reinforced how important it is for the
college and the community to work together,” said Interim SGC President Dr.
Virginia Carson.
