SGC centerfielder signs with USC-Aiken
Zack Kilday, the South Georgia College Tigers’ sophomore centerfielder, will
continue his playing career with the University of South Carolina – Aiken
following the 2009 season.
Wednesday afternoon, Kilday signed with the USC-Aiken Pacers and will be a
member of the Pacers’ squad for the 2010 season. Kilday started all 62 games
for the Tigers in 2008, and was a big part of SGC’s run through the
conference tournament. The Tigers eventually finished in second place.
Kilday led Region XVII in stolen bases with 33. He was second on the Tigers
in batting, finishing the season with a .319 average. He was also posted a
.383 on-base percentage. Kilday had 76 hits in 238 at-bats, driving in 31
runs while striking out just 19 times, the fewest of any Tiger who played in
more than 40 games. His .938 fielding percentage was also among the team
leaders.
“He’s a good athlete and a hard worker. He applies himself well both on the
field and in the classroom. He’s getting what he deserves,” says SGC
assistant coach Jeff Timothy.
“He had a great fall, and he’s one the players our guys look up to for
leadership,” said SGC coach Scott Sims.
“I wouldn’t trade my experience here at South Georgia College for anything.
We have a good team, and I enjoyed playing against my old teammates from
high school. I’m having a lot of fun,” says Kilday.
Now that Kilday has signed with USC-Aiken, he can focus all of his attention
on his final season with the Tigers, where he will again patrol centerfield.
The Pacers had a strong ’08 season, finishing one game short of the Division
II College World Series. USC-A posted a 47-17 record.
