Dr. Carson visits Westside
Interim South Georgia College President Dr. Virginia Carson visited Mrs. Hughes’
class at Westside Elementary as a part of Jumpstart’s Read for the Record
program on Thursday, Oct. 2. That day, students across the United States either
read or had someone read ‘Corduroy’ by Don Freeman. The concept is to get
hundreds of thousands of elementary students reading the same book on the same
day to emphasize the importance of reading. In the process, Jumpstart hopes to
break a world record by having so many people reading on the same day. Dr.
Carson read ‘Corduroy’ and then spent a few minutes answering questions. Maybe
some of the students will be a part of SGC’s Class of 2019!
