SGC creates transfer partnership with Southern Polytech

South Georgia College (SGC) and Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) recently signed an agreement that establishes a direct-transfer program for students seeking a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (I.T.).

Under the agreement, students will complete 60 hours of study at SGC before enrolling in SPSU’s web-based Bachelor’s program. After registering in SPSU’s online education program, students can complete the remaining 60 hours of coursework from the comfort of their own home. By completing the coursework on the Internet, I.T. students will learn with the very tools they will eventually use in the workforce.

“Today’s society is very dependant on technology, and we want the students of our area to have access to a growing job field,” says SGC President Dr. Lilly. As the world becomes more integrated through the Internet and portable technology, she says, today’s students require an aggressive education that allows them to compete on a global scale. “By partnering with Southern Polytech, SGC students can learn the skills and tools that will shape industry and lifestyle in the 21st century.”

"The agreement between South Georgia College and SPSU provides a wonderful opportunity for students in South Georgia to obtain a bachelor's degree in IT from SPSU without having to move to Atlanta,” says Dr. Han Reichgelt, SPSU Dean of the School of Computing and Software Engineering. “I am excited that it allows us to provide a high quality program from an area that we have traditionally not attracted many students."

The I.T. program allows students with an interest in technology to pursue jobs that include system, database, and network administrators; web designers; web and database programmers, and I.T. support specialists. Careers related to computer information systems will be some of the most in-demand jobs of the new century.

With the transfer partnership between SGC and SPSU finalized, SGC students can take advantage of this program immediately. For more information about SGC’s I.T. transfer program, contact Enrollment Services at 912.260.4206, admissions@sgc.edu, or by browsing SGC’s website at www.sgc.edu.
