FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE South Georgia College SGC and Georgia Southwestern sign student transfer agreement South Georgia College (SGC) students will now have an easier path to another four-year university thanks to a new agreement signed between SGC and Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW). The college and university signed an articulation agreement whereby a student can begin upper-level coursework at GSW immediately after completing SGC’s Associate program. The agreement, which SGC President Dr. Torri Lilly and GSW President Dr. Kendall Blanchard signed October 25, requires SGC student to complete 60 hours of coursework at SGC with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 or better before earning acceptance to GSW. According to SGC President Dr. Torri Lilly, the transfer option is another way SGC is preparing students for bachelor’s degrees. “One of primary goal of a community college is to be a stepping stone to four-year universities,” says Dr. Lilly, “and this partnership is ideal for students who are preparing to pursue their bachelor’s degree.” “We are excited about our new partnership with South Georgia College,” says Dr. Blanchard. “We are impressed by what the leadership there has accomplished in recent years, and we believe that we can work together to build on those accomplishments in a way that will benefit both of our institutions. More importantly, this new agreement will benefit those students who complete the Associate degree and wish to move on to a four-year program.” The new agreement will take effect immediately, allowing current students to take advantage of this latest partnership between SGC and a four-year university. SGC also supports a transfer program with Georgia Tech Savannah (GTS). Under that program, Pre-Engineering students are guaranteed acceptance to GTS if they have a 2.7 GPA and are recommended by the Chair of Science and Math.
