Institutional Effectiveness and Planning

The role of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness at South Georgia State College is to demonstrate how well the College succeeds in accomplishing its mission and meeting its goals. Faculty and administrators develop mission statements for each academic program and administrative unit that are derived from the College’s mission statement. They then define the program and learning outcomes they believe are most appropriate and report them in accordance with the Institutional Effectiveness Cycle at SGSC. These outcomes are assessed to determine the extent to which they were achieved in the planning year. Finally, the assessment results are used as the basis for making changes for continuous improvements in the academic and administrative programs.

In addition, Institutional Effectiveness at SGSC prepares and submits numerous responses annually to a wide variety of surveys and formal requests for statistical data and information. Data are collected internally as well as through the USG by the Numbers and also nationally through the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) and Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS).

Planning and Institutional Effectiveness guide the development and implementation of a comprehensive, college-wide Planning and Assessment Cycle at South Georgia State College that encompasses assessment, strategic planning, and accreditation.
