Community Patron Services

Public Use Policy

Persons from the surrounding communities are welcome to use the facilities of the William S. Smith Library at South Georgia College in accordance with the following policies.  Services available to the public include:

  • Check out from the circulating collections with a valid Community Library Card.
    • A Community Library Card may be purchased at the Circulation Desk.  Cards are valid for one year from date of purchase; cards are $5 per year.
    • Library books circulate for a loan period of 2 weeks, with a maximum of 5 titles checked out during a two-week loan period.
    • An item may be renewed once unless the item has a hold placed on it.
    • Any materials checked out on your card are your responsibility. While the Library does not charge overdue fines, failure to return items by the respective due dates will result in future circulation privileges being prohibited.  Lost or damaged materials will incur a replacement fee plus a $35 processing fee on your account, payable prior to future circulation of materials.
  • Use of computers on the main floor of the library near the Circulation Desk.
    • These computers access GALILEO and the Internet; GIL, the SGC online library catalog; and several Microsoft software programs.
    • Children under 14 must be supervised at the computer workstation by an adult 18 or older while using any SGC Library computer.
    • Printing from library computers is performed through a print workstation.  Pages printed cost 10 cents each cash.
    • Computer usage is permitted for one hour sessions on the general public workstations; high or low usage may permit adjustment to the length of sessions.
  • Use of self-service photocopier and microform reader-printer. Copies from these machines cost 10 cents each cash.
  • Use of Reference materials, newspapers, magazines, and journals (non-circulating items) within the SGC Library.
  • ILL service is available for community users only through the Satilla Regional Public Library; SGC Library staff can assist in identifying libraries owning materials desired.
