2. Official HolidaysSouth Georgia College will observe a minimum of twelve officially paid holidays each year.
3. Unofficial HolidaysThe President designates official holidays and unless determined differently official holidays each year will be: * New Year's Day* Martin Luther King Day (third Monday in January)* Memorial Day
* Independence Day* Labor Day (first Monday in September)* Thanksgiving Day plus one (third Thursday and Friday in November)* Christmas Day* Five holidays normally observed between Christmas Eve Day and New Year's Eve DayNormally, holidays which fall on a Saturday will be observed on the preceding Friday and a holiday falling on a Sunday will be observed on the following Monday.
4. Working On A HolidayUnofficial holidays are designated by the President and are announced at the beginning of a calendar year. An unofficial holiday will usually precede an official holiday and is optional. Annual leave must be taken if employees choose to take the unofficial holiday(s) scheduled for the calendar year.
5. EligibilityWhen the operating demands of a department necessitate employees working on a Holiday, the employees working will be compensated for such work at the regular rate of pay and be given a substitute holiday within a thirty day period immediately preceding or following the scheduled holiday. If no additional time off can be granted, the employee will be paid at the normal rate for overtime work with no additional time off.
6. Pay for HolidaysRegular employees working twenty hours or more per week are eligible for paid holidays.Temporary employees and regular employees working less than half-time (twenty hours per week) are not eligible for paid holidays.
7. Terminating EmployeesHourly paid employees will be paid for holidays at their regular hourly rate. They will be paid for the number of hours they would have worked if they had worked on the holiday.Salaried employees will be paid their regular salary for holidays. They will be paid for what they would have earned if they had worked on the holiday.Eligible employees working less than full-time will receive holiday pay equal to the number of hours they would have worked if they had worked on the holiday.Paid holiday time does not count as hours worked when calculating overtime pay.
Terminating employees will not receive pay for any holiday occurring after their last day worked.If an employee terminates after receiving holiday pay for holidays not yet earned, the institution will adjust the employee's final paycheck to compensate for the holiday pay. The adjustment will be handled by either reducing the final payment of annual leave accrued or in the event accrued annual leave does not sufficiently cover holiday pay, the employee will reimburse payment by personal check to the institution.
