A.   Recruiting Policies

            1.   Equal Employment Opportunity

To provide equal employment and advancement opportunities to all individuals, employment decisions at South Georgia College will be based on merit, qualifications, and abilities. In no case will an applicant be denied employment based upon race, color, sex, religion, creed, national origin, age or disability.

South Georgia College will make reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with known disabilities unless doing so would result in an undue hardship. This policy governs all aspects of employment, including selection, job assignment, compensation, discipline, termination, and access to benefits and training.

            2.   Affirmative Action

In addition to a commitment to provide equal employment opportunities to all qualified individuals, South Georgia College has established an affirmative action program to promote opportunities for individuals in certain protected classes throughout the organization.

Employees with questions or concerns about any type of discrimination in the workplace can bring these issues to the attention of their immediate Supervisor or the Affirmative Action Officer. Employees can raise concerns and make reports without fear of reprisal. Anyone engaging in discrimination will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

To insure fulfillment of the College's commitment to equal opportunity and affirmative action in recruiting and hiring, all applicants for classified services must apply directly to the Human Resources Office. All vacant, nonacademic classified positions must be listed with the Human Resources Officer as soon as they occur.

            3.   Americans with Disabilities Act

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in employment, public services, public accommodations, and telecommunications. Employees may self-identify any qualified disability as defined under ADA for which assistance is needed in carrying out their assigned duties. Individuals with disabilities are defined under ADA as persons who either have or are regarded as having a record of a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.

4.   Advertising a Position

South Georgia College is committed to providing advancement opportunities to its employees. However, both internal and external candidates may be considered for each vacant position to be filled. Selection of any candidate should be based on qualifications and the ability to perform the essential functions of the vacant position.
