Purpose of Policy and Procedures Manual

The personnel policies and procedures that follow are meant to provide general guidelines in numerous areas. These policies follow those developed by the University System of Georgia and should there be conflicts between the policies contained in this Personnel Manual and those adopted by The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, the policies of the Board will prevail.

This manual also addresses various State of Georgia and Federal regulations affecting the employee-employer relationship. Policies contained herein are meant to assure compliance and prevailing law will generally dictate action to be taken.

The Director of Human Resources will interpret the policies and procedures in this manual. The Director of Human Resources' interpretation will be subject to the approval of the Vice President for Business Affairs. The President of South Georgia College has final authority. Contents of this manual are subject to change from time to time. Revised pages will be issued as necessary.

Upon employment a form will be signed acknowledging that a copy of the Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual is available and may be viewed on the South Georgia College website. Individuals responsible for administering these policies and procedures should thoroughly understand the contents of this manual. Employees are encouraged to seek assistance in understanding policies that do not seem clearly addressed. Any question should be directed to the supervisor or the Director of Human Resources.

No policy and procedures manual can anticipate every circumstance. Individuals responsible for administering policy can help the College keep the personnel program up-to-date by informing the Director of Human Resources whenever problems arise with a policy or procedure. Suggestions or comments regarding the update of the policy manual are always welcome.
